Reading. I have laughed out loud more in the first 20 pages of this than I have with some entire books. It reads like “The Areas of my Expertise,” but focusing only on race- lots of charts and graphs and nonsense. Very enjoyable so far!

Keith Jones, “Wraparound cover for McSweeney’s 21”
Currently reading. Reaching back into the McSweeney’s archive for this one! Love the cover art for it. It’s got this nice little flap that folds over the edge of the book, so the entire thing has 360 degrees of art all around it. Very nice!

“Hoo-ray for Wimbledon Green!”
I really dug this rough, sketchy graphic novel from Seth! It’s got aspects of a freewheeling adventure about comic book collectors racing to see who can claim a rare book first, with the structure of a documentary- the story is told in interviews and single-page installments, similar to Clowes’ “Ice Haven.”
At the heart, though, it’s intensely nostalgic, with a longing to somehow return to childhood, or go back and grasp the past. Very good, touching, yet goofy, stuff.

Reading.
So far I’m digging this neat little poetic novel about a town cursed with eternal February. Reminds me a lot of one of my favorite books, “The People of Paper” by Salvador Plascencia- constantly shifting narration and lots of fascinating meta-textual trickery.
Plus, this cover’s pretty badass, right?

Finished. Very whimisical and fascinating in terms of setting and language, but a bit sad in terms of the plot. Worth reading, you can blast through it in like 90 minutes.

If you like comics in any way at all, do yourself a favor and read HABIBI by Craig Thompson. It is AMAZING, extremely intricately drawn, with a fantastic story.
